The 30th Annual State of Maine Sportsman’s Show on April 2-4 at the Augusta Civic Center features a wildlife and outdoor art show.
The judges will give First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention ribbons in eight categories: 1) Two-dimensional art in oil, 2) two-dimensional art in acrylic, 3) two-dimensional art in watercolor, 4) two-dimensional art in pastel, 5) two-dimensional art; mixed media, including pen and ink, pencil, etc., 6) three-dimensional art such as carvings, sculptures, etc. in wood, 7) bronze sculptures and 8) three-dimensional art such as carvings, sculptures, etc. in media other than wood or bronze. Trophies will be awarded for the Judges’ Best of Show and Sportsmen’s Choice, the latter voted on by the viewing public.
Judges will accept as many art pieces as people desire to enter. All works must depict North American fish or wildlife as the primary subject or show the activities of hunting, fishing, camping, boating or canoeing. This year, the North American stipulation will be strictly enforced. Art works must be original…not prints. The decisions of the judges are final, and they may not award all ribbons in a category. A fee of $3 will be charged for each piece submitted for inclusion in the show, and entries will be accepted on Thursday, April 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. only, and they’ll be judged Thursday night. Receipts will be given for each submitted work.
Artists can sell their works and assign any sales price they wish. The management will promote the show while encouraging art purchases. In lieu of cash prizes, no commission will be charged for art work sold at the show or as a result of the show.
All works must stay on display until 4:30 p.m., Sunday, April 4, and they must be picked up between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. that day.
