"Save Our Deer Day"
This year’s State of Maine Sportsman show will feature a full day of seminars and events on Saturday, April 3.
Because of the extreme level of concern caused by the sharp decline in Northern Maine deer number over the past few years, the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine (SAM) has lined up a multi-event program called "Save Our Deer Day," guaranteed to be a crowd favorite.
Included in the day’s events are a seminar on deer feed and food plots featuring sportsmen involved in those activities. SAM’s deer expert Gerry Lavigne will present a video on coyote hunting as means of predator control.
A seminar exploring what landowners and the Fish and Wildlife Department are doing to protect them will be presented, along with a presentation on how you can help with SAM’s Deer action plan, and an explanation of Aroostook County’s deer restoration plans.
A special feature will be a stage show event by Harry Vanderweide and George Smith, the hosts of Maine’s only conservation-oriented television show, Wildfire! The pair will be questioning Maine’s deer experts and will take questions from the audience.
There will also be an opportunity to talk to deer experts in several different exhibitor booths, and to sign up for the statewide deer coyote hunting network.
