The Alliance of Trail Vehicles of Maine (ATV Maine) will bring the Maine Safety trailer to the 2010 Maine Sportsmen Show, and weather permitting, this group will allow children from 8 to 16 years old to learn how to operate an ATV in a safe, controlled manner on an outdoors course in the parking lot beside the Civic Center.
Once youngsters have obtained directions in safe ATV use, they will be allowed to travel around an enclosed course that is set up with many of the same features that riders encounter on the trail. The course will include a makeshift bridge, proper safety signing and opportunities to learn safety tips. Occasionally, a game warden on the course may stop a youth and ask questions such as, “Is your machine registered?” All this is done to prepare children for safe operation of their own ATV while on the trails across the state.
BRP, Mission trailer and many of their dealers from across the state donated the Safety Trailer, which contains a 32-inch, flat-screen TV for playing safety videos continuously from the side of the unit. At the same time the videos play, ATV Maine members will be talking with individuals about their ATV experiences.
